The Tooth Fairy’s Supervisor

Juliet lost her first tooth yesterday!  Just before we left to go to the Earth Day Festival in Balboa Park so she was excited she lost it on a holiday.  :)  All four of her front teeth are loose and I was certain she would lose one of the top ones first because it was wigglier sooner.  But this little itty bitty one caught up fast and she’s been pushing it with her tongue for a week.  She didn’t want to pull it even though it was lying completely horizontal at times.  ”I want to wait until it’s ready.  Then it will just fall out.”  Oh, the wisdom of this girl.

She was jumping on the trampoline with Camille when I heard her exclaim, “My tooth!  It fell out!  Camille, I lost my tooth!!”  Apparently she was moving it with her tongue and it simply fell into her open hand.  So much excitement!  It was so fun to watch her running around with her little pearly white, showing us all, looking in the mirror, laughing and chattering.

Then she got a little worried and asked me if I had to take her tooth from under her pillow.  She really wanted to keep it and of course I told her that she could keep it.  She’d still get the cash.  So the day went on and before she went to bed, she drew this picture and gave it to me.  ”It’s a hand sliding under a pillow.  That’s the box with my tooth in it and you just leave the coins next to it.”  Well, okay then!

That wasn’t the end, though.  After I went to bed, she came in and nudged me to say she was worried I’d forget because I was so sleepy.  I assured her I wouldn’t forget.  ”I’m on it.  Will you go to sleep?!” may have been the phrasing.  After a few peaceful hours of rest I startled awake and dragged myself into Camille’s room where J was sleeping and placed four quarters under her pillow.  MIssion Accomplished- I could sleep until morning.  Or not.  I was jolted awake by Juliet standing next to me in the darkness to say that I hadn’t yet done my job.  She had put her hand under her pillow but didn’t feel anything!!  Oh em gee!!  ”Juliet, I’m telling you I did it.  It’s under your pillow.  Go feel again.”  And I rolled over into the oblivion of unconsciousness thinking, holy cow, this is only her first of what…twenty teeth?

She keeps me on my toes, that one.
