that’s better

So what do you do when you’ve got a list a mile long?  Stress pouring out of your ears? Feeling grumpy from a terrible night’s sleep?  Lots of decisions and plans to be researched and hammered out?  Phone calls to make?

You make a new mess to deal with.  I ignored my list yesterday and re-organized my kitchen.  Yup.  Camille and I emptied every single cupboard and drawer onto the countertops and floor, sorted, tossed and donated.  The condensed contents were then all given a new home for better workflow and access.  The island cupboards now hold our dishes and our glasses have been moved next to the refrigerator.  Everything is in a different place and it feels so good!

The best part was unearthing items that have an artistic appeal.  I won’t necessarily keep them all because I’m creating empty space and less clutter, but I love old cookbooks.  The now-retired Gourmet magazines are gorgeous.

The kitchen window scene has a new shot of color.  Who doesn’t love blue glass?  Yes, Miranda, I still have it.  :)

I cleared more space on the counter for only my favorite items.  More space, more space!

We ended up with a box plus a little overflow to donate.  Tossed/recycled two garbage bags full.  Not bad.  Although I am questioning why exactly we had five empty wine bottles?  I think we’re pretty much pared down to the basics now.  Anyone want to buy a juicer by the way?

Now the trick is going to be to keeping it like this.  I like having empty cupboards.  My head feels clearer, you know?  Ready for the big reveal?

                                                                     Tada!

Turns out, this was just what I needed.  Waaay more important than all that other stuff I ignored today.
